We went on a training trip to Kyushu from November 1st to 3rd, 2024. One of the key objectives of this visit was to see the temporary shrine at Dazaifu Tenmangu in Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Dazaifu Tenmangu was founded in 919 (Engi 19) to enshrine Sugawara no Michizane. In preparation for the 1125th anniversary of Michizane’s passing in 2027, a major renovation of the main shrine, designated as an Important Cultural Property, has been underway since May of last year and will span three years. During this period, a temporary shrine, designed by a team led by the internationally renowned architect Sousuke Fujimoto, has been constructed, garnering significant attention.
Our main work involves large-scale architecture such as apartment and hotels. However, experiencing and connecting with the essence of Japan’s history and culture through significant architectural sites offers invaluable insights into designing landscapes and fostering human connections in the communities we serve.
After visiting Dazaifu on the first day, we have visited Itoshima, the Hakata Ori Weaving Museum, and the Yoshinogari Historical Park in Fukuoka Prefecture. On the final day, we explored the majestic natural scenery of Mount Aso in Kumamoto Prefecture. This training trip was a valuable three-day experience where our staff members gained new knowledge, enjoyed themselves, and tightened their bonds.
