ReseArchi#2 Nadeshiko Art and Culture Center

“ReseArchi” is our newsletter where each team member explores and researches architectural designs around them, sharing personal insights and inspirations through stories. In this second issue, we’re excited to introduce the Nadeshiko Art and Culture Center in Kobe City.

Website: https://seishin-hall.jp
Location: 1-1-1 Mikatadai, Nishi-ku, Kobe City, Hyogo 651-2277, Japan
Design: KUME SEKKEI
Construction:Kajima Corporation (KAJIMA DESIGN)
Completed October 2022

As part of the redevelopment surrounding Seishin-Chuo Station, this newly constructed complex integrates a library and a multipurpose hall. The facility is directly connected to the station, ensuring smooth pedestrian access.

A café on the ground floor, complete with terrace seating, blurs the boundary between building and street, fostering a strong sense of openness and integration with the urban fabric.

The architectural expression is defined by its striking origami-inspired structural form. Geometric motifs are employed consistently throughout the design, appearing in the façade’s metal panels, integrated signage, and ceiling treatments, contributing to a cohesive and dynamic spatial experience. If you have the chance to visit Kobe, I encourage you to stop by and experience it for yourself.

About “ReseArchi”

“ReseArchi” is our in-house design newsletter for a wider audience. Originally created for internal use, we realized that the content could also be valuable for anyone interested in architectural design. We’ve named the series “ReseArchi”, a blend of “Research” and “Architecture.”
